Consider the following:
What really makes this lecturer’s teaching great ?
- What is it about their teaching that is outstanding?
- Is their teaching innovative ? If so, what do they do that is different? Are they creative in their approach?
- Is their teaching inclusive ? Do you personally feel included in the learning experience?
- Do they use Canvas (the Digital Learning Platform) well ?
- How have they engaged you in blended / remote learning? Have they used lecture capture? Zoom? Teams?
- What sorts of teaching methods do they use in general? Group work? Discussion? Questioning? Quizzes?
- Do they have any ways of doing things that particularly help you to learn?
- How well supported do you feel in your learning? What makes you feel like this?
- Are there resources for the course to support your learning? Videos? Handouts? PowerPoints? etc. If so, are they good? Do you find them helpful?
- How is the atmosphere of the learning environment? Relaxed? Supportive? Exciting? Interesting? Inspiring? Engaging?
- How are you assessed? (not just feedback - read on for more on that)
What about their feedback?
- Remember that feedback isn’t just a formal response on written work. It can be:
- informal during class
- verbal
- a reaction to the way you responded to a question
- small group / whole class
- individual
- part of a conversation
- on a Turnitin assignment
- video
- almost anything !
- Do you get sufficient feedback to support your learning?
- Does it justify your mark (when appropriate)?
- Is it constructive? Giving you suggestions for improving your work?
- Are there suggestions for other ways to get support?
- Does it reference the rubric / mark scheme / assignment / your previous work?
- Is it honest? Specific to you?
- Is it followed up on?
