Frequently Asked Questions - Tuition Fee Increase

The Welsh Government has announced changes to tuition fees and student loans for the 2026/27 academic year. Effective from 1st August 2026 tuition fees will now be capped at £9,790 instead of the previous £9,535 figure. This increase reflects inflation and aims to ensure universities can continue delivering high-quality education and cohesive support for students.

From September 2026, tuition fees for the below listed students will be adjusted from £9,535 to the tuition fee cap (currently £9,790) annually:

  • Prospective/new students (including PGCE and foundation year (non-classroom based)).
  • Current undergraduate students (including suspended and repeating students).
  • Current undergraduate students with a year in industry.
  • Current undergraduate students with a year abroad.

This tuition fee increase will not impact:

  • Prospective/new foundation year students (classroom based). From September 2026, tuition fees for foundation year students (classroom based) will remain at the tuition fee cap (currently £5,760).
  • Postgraduate students.
  • International students (international student tuition fees are advertised via our course web pages and differ to UK or ‘home’ student tuition fees).
  • Current PGCE students.
  • Students enrolled on the following courses; Welsh Government funded Nursing programmes or Degree Apprenticeship or Foundation Degree programmes based at Swansea University or Coleg Cambria.
